Crazy ant

 

 

 

These small, dark colored ants get their name from the habit of walking around in circles, not following trails as most other ants.  Instead of looking focused they often are seen wandering around countertops, floors, etc., as if they are lost.  Crazy ants will either be seen in trails or acting well…crazy.

 

Identification

Dark brown in color and typically 2 to 2.5 mm in length.

Common locations

The crazy ant is highly adaptable, living in both dry and moist habitats. They can commonly be found in landscaping mulch, under loose bark on trees, in potted plants.

Diet

Crazy ants feed on a variety of foods, other insects, grease and sweets.

Additional Info

Crazy ant colonies are very mobile and can move to new locations when environmental conditions become unfavorable.
