Little black ant

 

 

 

The little black ant, not surprisingly, is a very small, black ant.

Identification

Tiny, about 1 to 1.15 mm and jet black in color.

Common locations

Normally nests outdoors in wood and dense vegetation but can readily adapt to the household situation including in walls, cabinet voids, under the edge of carpets, and in masonry, such as brick or stone veneer on the outside of the structure.

Diet

The little black and feeds on a wide variety of foods including honeydew secretions of other insects, plants and vegetation as well as sweets, meats, grease, bread, oils, cornmeal and fruit juices. Not a picky eater this ant.

Additional Info

This ant is closely related to the Pharaoh ant and looks just like it except for its black coloration.
